I have studied design all of my life.
I began drawing skateparks in isometric view in 6th grade. I used to draw my favorite brands’ logos (car and skate companies) on index cards and make little collections of inspiring graphics. I got the Apple iPod the day it came out in 2001, the same day iTunes launched. I’m sharing this because I think these pieces of my story are descriptive of my love for design.
While attending university, I ended up studying architecture, human behavior, environmental design, urban design, and product design. I have professional experience in scrum management, technical design, product management, and business management.
From my design manifesto, “Design for People,” these are my 16 principles for eternal design:
1. do no unnecessary harm
2. provide for community
3. create ripples
4. design for the now
5. take care in craft
6. do something
7. provide ultimate function
8. ask for help (collaborate)
9. passive design is best
10. accept change
11. be an observer
12. remain teachable
13. progress, not perfection
14. fuck up, then fuck up again
15. think, think, think
16. design for people
